Laxman to lead Hyderabad against Punjab in Ranji encounter

Retired batsman VVS Laxman will lead Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy Group ‘A’ league match against a Punjab Cricket Association team in Mohali from November 2.

The 27-year-old had announced retirement from international cricket in August this year ahead of the home series against New Zealand despite being selected to play.

The other members of the Hyderabad Ranji team are:D B Ravi Teja (vice captain), P Akshat Reddy, G H Vihari, N Arjun Yadav, Ahmed Quadri, B Sandeep, Ibraheem Khalil (wk), Pragyan Ojha, M A Khader, Anwar Ahmed Khan, P Kaneshkk Naidu, Abhinav Kumar and Vishal Sharma. While announcing his retirement from international cricket, the stylish batsman had indicated that he would continue to play for Hyderabad in the Ranji matches. Meanwhile off-spinner Harbhajan Singh will lead the Punjab challenge during Ranji Trophy.

Bowlers set up Metro Motors facile triumph over HDFC

Chandigarh:A combined effort by their bowlers guided Metro Motors to an easy nine-wicket win over HDFC Ltd in a match of the CII Corporate Cricket Cup being played on Saturday.

Batting first, HDFC Ltd posted a total of 107 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. Dheeraj played a knock of 26 runs.

For Metro Motors, Lalit Bindra claimed two wickets for 16 runs. In reply, Metro Motors reached the target for the loss of one wicket. Lalit Arora played a knock of 61 runs. In the second match of the day, FCI scored a seven-wicket win over Barclays Bank.

Mohali:Sumer Sandhu overpowered Siddharth Goel 5-1 with ease in the boys U-12 first round match to advance in the next stage during the Paragon Total Tennis Championship being held at the Paragon School, Sector 71, Mohali.
