London, Feb 9 (IANS) Fast bowler Chris Tremlett has been named the travelling reserve in the 15-member England squad for the World Cup for possible replacement for injured attack bowlers.
Several of England’s bowlers, including Tremlett, were injured during the three-month tour Down Under. Tremlett took an impressive 17 wickets at an average of 23.35 during the Ashes Test series before adding six more in four one-dayers.
The right-arm seamer has now fully recovered from his side strain, and will be ready to share the attack if his fellow bowlers are injured.
“While the injured bowlers in the 15-man squad are all progressing well, the selectors have decided it would be prudent to have an additional player on hand who is acclimatised in case we need to apply to the Event Technical Committee for a replacement due to injury,” national selector Geoff Miller said.
Fast bowlers Tim Bresnan, Ajmal Shahzad and Stuart Broad are carrying injuries. Spinner Graeme Swann also has a back problem while batsman Eoin Morgan has been ruled out of the tournament with a broken finger, but coach Andy Flower insists there is no injury crisis.
