Sachin rolls his arm after 14 ODIs

Ahmedabad, March 24 (IANS) It was a brief spell but it created a lot of excitement at the packed Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera when India’s batting maestro rolled his arm after 14 matches in the World Cup quarterfinal against Australia here Thursday.

Tendulkar last bowled in an ODI in 2009, also against Australia, in Guwahati.

Seeing the pitch providing assistance to spinners, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni threw the ball to Tendulkar to bowl the 30th over.

The first two balls were not on the mark and both Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting collected a single each. The third one was an absolute beauty. It pitched outside the leg stump and spun back sharply right across the face of the bat of a flummoxed Clarke. The ball must have reminded the Australian vice captain of some of the deliveries the legendary spin wizard Shane Warne whipped away.

Sachin’s over did impact the Australians as in the next over, Clarke (8), in his attempt to hit left-arm spinner Yuvraj Singh against the turn, gave a catch to Zaheer Khan in the deep.

His two overs cost nine runs.
