Nagpur, Feb 21 (IANS) The win against England in the 2009 World Twenty20 has given the Netherlands confidence ahead of their World Cup opener here Tuesday, Dutch skipper Peter Borren said.
Six members, who were part of the famous win against England, are here for the 50-over mega event.
Borren admitted there was a lot of difference between the two formats but said the Dutch are up for the challenge.
“That win against England gave us a lot of confidence. We will take confidence from that win,” said Borren.
“Fifty-overs is a different format but we have played a lot of One-day Internationals. It is something that we are used to playing in.”
The all-rounder could not play in the warm-ups due to abdominal pain and said the he will not be bowling in the initial group matches.
Asked about the International Cricket Council (ICC) trimming the teams to 10 for the 2015 World Cup, Borren said: “It is not really something that I am focusing on at the moment. We need to prove ourselves on the field. But Associates offer a lot to the World Cup.”
Kevin Pietersen will open for England Tuesday and Borren said it will be tough to contain the flamboyant batsman.
“We are all aware what he is capable of. He is a dangerous player and we have got to take our chances and try and get him out sooner rather than later.”
