Chittagong, March 9 (IANS) England have asked for fast bowler Chris Tremlett as a replacement for injured Stuart Broad in their World Cup squad.

The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed that they have sent their application to the International Cricket Council’s event technical committee for Tremlett to come in as a replacement.

Tremlett, who is travelling with the squad as a stand-by player, was always the obvious choice to replace Broad, whose tour came to an end after it was revealed Tuesday that his side strain was serious enough to send him back.

Tremlett is the second replacement player England in the past two days, with middle-order batsman Eoin Morgan replacing an injured Kevin Pietersen Monday.

Morgan, who was initially dropped from the 15-member squad due to an injury, joined the squad for practice here at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. England face Bangladesh Friday in a Group B match at the same venue.
