Zaheer, Sreesanth out of Test series

Zaheer Khan and Shantha Sreesanth have been ruled ouf of India’s Test series against the West Indies.

Southpaw seamer Zaheer is still recovering from an ankle injury, while right-armer Sreesanth’s injured right elbow has him sidelined.

The duo’s absence further weakens a squad already void of Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar.

While left-handed batsmen Yuvraj and Gambhir have been sidelined due to illness and injury respectively, the BCCI have granted former captain Tendulkar permission to spend time with his family rather than tour the Caribbean.

Rookie opening batsman Abhinav Mukund and Virat Kohli are the only uncapped players in the 16-man squad.

“Zaheer has a right ankle problem, and Sreesanth has a right elbow problem. Both players will require some time off for rehabilitation,” said secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India N Srinivasan.

Abhimanyu Mithun, who last played Test cricket almost a year ago, and Praveen Kumar, involved in the ongoing ODI series against the Windies, have been called up as replacements for Khan and Sreesanth.

The first of the three-Test series gets underway on 20 June. Cricket365
