New Delhi, Feb 9 (IANS) Failing to make a living doing odd jobs, Parmjeet, in his 30s, decided to turn a chain snatcher. But since he did not have a bike, he joined an autolifters’ gang and went on chain snatching sprees across the capital, and spent the money thus earned on his three girlfriends.

Delhi Police Wednesday said Parmjeet and his associate Fayim, 23, have been arrested, whichnhas helped solve four cases of auto thefts and around 20 cases of chain snatching.

“Following a tip-off, the duo were held from Pitampura on Tuesday when they were about to commit chain snatching. A stolen bike was also recovered from them,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Meenu Choudhary said.

“He, along with Fayim and the kingpin Sadik, committed around 20 cases of chain snatching from various parts of the city. They sold these chains to goldsmiths in Jahangirpuri,” said Choudhary.

Parmjeet told police that he failed to make a living doing odd jobs in small construction companies, after which he came in contact with Sadik. He added that he spent all his money on his three girlfriends.

“Sadik is still absconding. Efforts are on to nab him,” Choudhary added.
