Five police Sub-Inspectors arrested for malpractice in recruitment exams

Hyderabad: The Crime Investigation Department on Thursday said that it has arrested five Sub-Inspectors of Police for getting selected to their jobs by using proxies to appear in their written examinations.

According to Additional Director General of Police (CID) K Laxminaryana, the five Sub-Inspectors, Sriram Linga Rao (30) ofJubilee Hills Police Station, Sriram Chinna Gopal Krishna, (30) of Manghalhat Police Station, Vempati Venkateshwarlu, (33) of Monda Market Police Station, Vempati Nageswar Rao (31) of VR Puram Police Station in Khammam and Dangari Srinivas Rao (32) of Dummagudem Police Station in Khammam were arrested.

Mr Laxminarayana said that during the course of investigation in this case (relating to SIs (Civil) recruitment, 2008), it was revealed that the five candidates have indulged in serious malpractices and adopted unfair means to get selected as Sub-Inspectors of Police in the written examination.

They got their photographs on the hall tickets morphed with the help of the owner of a photo studio in Kodad of Nalgonda district and also engaged other persons to write examinations on their behalf and thereby indulged in offences of criminal conspiracy and impersonation.

scam came to light after a criminal case was registered at Thipparthy police station of Nalgonda district against one G Saidulu, a removed Home Guard and another in 2009 against Ravi Kumar (a Police Constable removed from service) stating that they had collected huge amounts of money from some candidates appearing for selection as Police Constables promising them to arrange for their selection but they failed to do so.

Arrest and interrogation of the above two persons revealed that a major scam of certain people indulging in collection of huge amounts of money, inducing innocent and gullible unemployed candidates to pay for the purpose of selection.

Nalgonda district police registered a separate case, investigated and arrested nine candidates who were selected by indulging in cheating, malpractices and unfair means in the written tests for police constables conducted by State Level Police Recruitment Board during the year 2009, but not sent for training and 5 others who helped them illegally in the above selection.

At this stage, the above case was transferred to CID for further investigation.

During the investigation, some more new facts were unearthed relating to selection of Police Constables in the year 2008 and also selection of SIs (Civil) in the year 2008.

So, separate cases have been registered in the CID. Cr.No.14/2011 u/s 419, 420, 120(B) & Sec.3 of Public Examinations (Prevention of Malpractices and Unfair Means) Act, 1997 of CID PS, Hyderabad relates to SIs (Civil) recruitment of 2008.

The hand writings of the original candidates and that of the impersonators were also got compared in the Forensic Science Laboratory, Hyderabad and it is confirmed further that the above accused are responsible for the offence of cheating.

One Sada Karunakar who recently died due to electric short circuit was revealed to be the brain behind the conspiracy.

The five probationary Sub-Inspectors of Police were arrested and are being produced before Judicial Magistrate.

Efforts are being continued to arrest the other absconding accused who are involved in the scam including those who wrote examinations on behalf of the above five arrested accused.
