Jammu, March 25 (IANS) A jail superintendent who allegedly helped a murder case accused set up a contract killing has been arrested, officials said Friday.
Mirza Salim Ahmed Beig was arrested Thursday. During his posting at the Kot Bhalwal jail here, Beig had helped leading businessman Nagar Singh, arrested in connection with the tampering of evidence in a murder case in which his son was involved, plot a murder conspiracy.
According to Deputy Inspector General of Police Farooq Khan, police found that the jail superintendent had played a crucial role in helping the businessman set up contract killings to eliminate witnesses in the murder case.
The accused official had made attempts to escape, but police were able to nab him at the Jammu station as he arrived from Delhi by train, Khan told IANS.
The contract killers were arrested before they could execute the murders. Khan said the arrest was a result of the disclosures made by the arrested contract killers.
Beig was superintendent of Kot Bhalwal jail until October last year. He is currently superintendent of the district jail, Jammu.
