Hyderabad: A 38-year-old man, Manoj Sahu, allegedly made a bid to rape his 14-year-old daughter at his house in Old Hafeezpet in Miyapur on Wednesday.
As the girl raised an alarm, locals caught him and handed him over to police. According to Miyapur inspector S Bheem Reddy, Manoj Sahu, a native of Orissa, had migrated to the city two years ago.
He along with his wife, a daughter and a son stay in Old Hafeezpet. When his wife and son went out of the house, Sahu, who works as a security supervisor, went to the kitchen and saw his daughter cooking. Taking advantage of her vulnerable position, he closed the doors and tried to force himself on her.
The girl, stunned by the move, tried to save herself from her father. He, however, chased her and again tried to rape her, but the girl, who sensed danger from her father, alerted her neighbours. They broke the doors and rescued the girl. They thrashed Manoj and handed him over to police.
Based on a complaint lodged by his wife, Miyapur police arrested Sahu and registered a case under section 354 (Assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (Criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), inspector Bheem Reddy said. TOI
