New Delhi, Feb 21 (IANS) A man was arrested in the national capital with 209 kg of marijuana worth nearly Rs.10 lakh, police said Monday.
“Virender Singh, 37, was apprehended near Yamuna Bank metro depot in east Delhi on Saturday while he was transporting the contraband in a car,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Chand.
During interrogation, Singh told police that he did his post-graduation from Delhi University and his family members were involved in criminal activities.
“His mother is a bootlegger and is involved in as many as 34 criminal cases,” said Chand.
Initially, he earned his livelihood through sale of readymade garments but took to crime for easy money.
“He said the contraband came from Orissa and was transported through oil tankers in hidden cavities to Mathura from where he collected it,” said the officer.
