New Delhi, Feb 24 (IANS) A 26-year-old factory worker from Bihar was allegedly stabbed to death with a screwdriver after he resisted a robbery attempt in south Delhi, police said Thursday.
“Virender Kumar was accosted by four men at 9.30 p.m. Wednesday near Vasishtha Park in D block of Sagarpur area,” said Sharad Aggarwal, deputy commissioner of police (southwest).
“The assailants asked him to hand over his belongings. During the scuffle, the victim was stabbed. Locals, who saw the assailants flee, informed the police. A Police Control Room van took Kumar to the nearby Shakuntala Hospital where he was declared brought dead,” said the police officer.
According to police, Kumar used to work at an embroidery factory in west Delhi’s Janakpuri and was on his way home when the incident occurred.
“We suspect that Virender had a fight with the men, who we believe were known to him. We have detained some people. However, no arrests have been made so far,” said the officer.
According to police, Kumar was a resident of a slum in Nasirpur’s D block where he used to stay with migrant labourers from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.
