New Delhi, March 9 (IANS) Delhi Police Wednesday interrogated around 30 people, including plumbers and supervisors who had carried out repairs in the house of Anna Mammen, the 80-year-old mother of a prominent lawyer, who was found strangled in her east Delhi home Tuesday.

Anna Mammen is the mother of Rebecca John, who is representing dentist Rajesh Talwar in the Arushi-Hemraj murder case.

The elderly lady was found strangled with a wire in her Vivek Vihar house in East Delhi around 3.30 p.m. Tuesday.

“Special Investigative team has been formed. We are investigating the case and post mortem report is awaited,” Deputy Commissioner of Police O.P. Mishra told IANS.

There was some renovation work in the house a few months back and scores of workers had visited Mammen’s house during the period, police said.

The police are also questioning the sweepers of the area.

Police sources said that the investigation is zeroing in on people who had easy access to the deceased’s residence and the murderer probably knew the victim.

“Mammen was alone in her house when the incident took place. Some unidentified men strangled her with the wire of a mixer-grinder kept in the kitchen. Her body was found on a bed,” a police officer said.

The deceased was a retired teacher and was giving tuitions at her home to students of Class 10 and 12 in two batches. There was a two hour gap between the time her maid served her lunch and the arrival of her next batch of students, police said.

An investigator said on condition of anonymity that cash and jewellery were missing from her residence.

The incident came to light when a security guard noticed that the rear door of Mammen’s house open. He alerted her tenants on the first floor.

“On entering the house the tenants found her strangled,” said the police officer.
