New Delhi, March 9 (IANS) In two separate cases of attempted suicide in the capital, a 78-year-old woman was burnt to death after she set herself afire while a class four employee was recuperating after a self-immolation bid, police said Wednesday.
Thirty-year-old Rakesh tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene over his body in Adarsh Nagar area of west Delhi Tuesday night.
“Rakesh set himself on fire at around 10 p.m. last night. He was rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital,” said a police officer.
In another incident, Mangala Devi, 78, set herself afire at her residence at Sector 3 in Rohini area of north Delhi Tuesday evening.
“The neighbours sew the flames and rushed to the spot. She was rushed to Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead,” said a police officer.
She was allegedly upset over a prolonged ailment.
According to the police, she lived with her son and daughter-in-law who were not at home when the incident took place.
