A Woman who died on board a British commuter train today when fire erupted in a restroom was believed to have committed suicide.
The incident happened at 4.25pm local time as a London Midland service headed from central England toward London’s Euston station.
Firefighters were alerted to a fire as the train pulled into Leighton Buzzard station, about 60km north of central London. They found a woman’s body in an onboard restroom.
“A passenger reported the fire to a conductor. All the other passengers got off safely,” said a London Midland spokesman.
British Transport Police said the incident appeared to have been an “individual act,” the Guardian newspaper reported.
“No other person is believed to have been involved in the incident and it is not being treated as an accident,” a police spokesperson said.
The fire brought the busy West Coast Main Line to a standstill as overhead power lines had to be shut down, heaping misery on commuters. Agencies
