Hyderabad: The Afzalgunj police on Saturday revealed that it has nabbed a 19-year-old youth on charges of stealing 12 laptops worth around Rs 3.5 lakh from him.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Zone) Y Gangadhar, the youth Pembarthi Mahendra hails from Mumbai and is a native of Mumbai of Maharashtra state.

The 12 stolen laptops were recovered from his possession.

Mr Gangadhar said that Mahendra studied up to Intermediate. After completion of Intermediate, he joined an ‘interior decorator’ course in July 2010 at LS Raheja Interior Decoration and Architecture College. During his college days, he fell in bad company and became a loafer, bunking college and generally whiling away his time. When his father found out, he ran away from home and came to Hyderabad.

In the city he gained employment at a private firm at Dilsukhnagar for four months. Later he left that job and spent all the money he had earned on his various addictions.

In the first week of June, Mahendra worked as data entry operator at Gowliguda Community Hall (AADHAR Cards project and laptops servicing centre), for one day. At that time, he noticed that the staff there kept some laptops in a box beside the window and there is no security guard in the night time.

He stole the laptops and other equipment by entering into above community hall by cutting window grill during the nights of June 15 and July 9.(INN)
