He might have to his ‘credit’ a slew of Box Office disasters but that doesn’t stop him from pocketing fees in crores for his next. Incredibly astonishing it might sound but going by the latest buzz, it has been discovered that Akshay Kumar will get a staggering Rs 23 crore for the ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai’ sequel.
The jaw dropping figure clearly makes this khiladi, the most expensive actor in the town. The sequel is set to be directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Ekta Kapoor. OUATIM proved to be a major hit last year and when talks of sequel emerged the makers zeroed in on Akshay Kumar who they felt would do perfect justice to the role in question.
That withstanding, it seems like a norm for Bollywood heroes to ask for hefty amounts the moment they have established themselves. Salman Khan reportedly settled the deal for Rs 21 crores for brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri’s film ‘Bodyguard’, and he is also a partner in profits.
Even Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan have no fixed amount for signing a film but they take a fat share in profits. It was said that Aamir Khan made Rs 55 crore from ‘3 Idiots’; he had a deal with the makers when he started shooting for the film.
As trade pundits claim, ultimately it’s the name of the star that makes a film. But what comes as a surprise is that even if Akki might not have delivered in the past few films, the producers have no qualms paying him what he asks for.
Akshay’s latest ‘Thank You was out rightly lambasted by the audience and critics alike.
All said and done Akshay has the last laugh for sure! Agencies
