Salman Khan is actively participating in the second season of Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), announced on Saturday, August 6.

“I like the spirit of Mumbai Heroes, they lost the matches in Season One but won the hearts of millions,” he says. Team captain Suniel Shetty adds, “Even if we win this time, the spirit will remain the same as when we lost.”

This year, CCL has introduced two new teams – Kerala Super Stars, owned by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and director Priyadarshan’s wife Lizzy, and Bengal Tigers owned by producer Boney Kapoor. “I hope to showcase the talent of Bengali actors with this team,” said the producer. Meanwhile, Priyan said cricket is his passion but he had to stop playing the game when he met with an accident that damaged his eye. “My wife and Mohanlal own the team. I am giving them my full support,” states the director.

The franchise owner of Mumbai Heroes, Sohail Khan, has decided to pull up his socks this time. He explains, “This time, we will start training from October. Last season we didn’t get to practice because there was the World Cup followed by the IPL. All the professional grounds were taken. This time CCL is happening well before the IPL.”
Suniel elaborates that after the first CCL season, he understands what being “cricket fit” means. “If you want to be on television, you better make sure you are good enough to play!”

Commenting on rumours that Sourav Ganguly is consulting for his team, Boney only admits that the cricketer is on his wish list. CCL has announced the venues for Season 2: Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi, Dubai, Abu Dubai and Sharjah. Season 2 will be held from January 27 to February 19, 2012. There will be 15 League matches, two semifinals and one final. TOI
