Actress Tannishtha Chatterjee, best known for her roles in the films, “Brick Lane” and “Shadows of Time” made a short visit to Delhi. We caught up with her while she dined with her friends in a restaurant in the city.
It’s always a challenge to work with new people
Tannishtha, who was shooting in Jaisalmer for “Jal” directed by Girish Malik, adds, “We have completed some parts of the movie in Bhuj. But the rest of the shooting of the movie was shifted to Jaisalmer due to heavy rain in Bhuj. It is an interesting concept and the movie is about how people in Kutch go to great lengths to save water. The director of the movie is making his debut and it’s always quite a challenge to work with a new team.”
You will hear me singing soon
Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam will be making his debut as a music composer in the movie “Jal”. Nigam apparently got so impressed with Tannishtha’s voice, that he asked her to sing for his next project. So is it true? “Yes, Sonu was surprised to know that I’m a classical singer too and when he heard my voice he immediately offered me to sing for his next venture,” says Tannishtha.
On Trying her luck in mainstream Bollywood
Tannishtha has plans to venture into mainstream movies. She shares, “Acting is my passion and I would love to do different kinds of roles. Next, I would like to get into mainstream cinema. It is always interesting to learn something new. I will be doing Aditya Bhattacharya’s film titled “Bombay’s Most Wanted”. It has a great star cast and I hope the audience would appreciate my work.”
Her Hollywood connection
Sharing her experience of working with Hollywood actor Martin Sheen in “Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain”, Tannishtha points out, “I would consider myself very lucky to have got the chance to work with such renowned people from Hollywood. It has been an amazing experience so far. I have to say, international actors are extremely professional. Martin Sheen was very encouraging on the sets. My dialogues in the movie were mainly in Hindi, so during our free time on the sets Martin would ask me to teach him Hindi.”
No marriage plans
Talking about her marriage plans, she says, “I haven’t even thought about it, and it is very irritating when people ask me this question. Frankly, I’m in no hurry. At the moment, I like my life the way it is. I simply love to call myself a wanderer, or maybe even a gypsy who loves travelling from one place to another.”
Ranbir served me a soft drink
Tannishtha has a special connection with Ranbir kapoor. She says “I remember meeting Ranbir first on the sets of “Black”. I had gone there for an audition and was waiting for my turn to meet Sanjay Leela Bhansali, when suddenly a cute looking boy walked up to me and offered me a glass of water. I said, ‘I wouldn’t mind if you get me a soft drink.’ He immediately ran back and fetched me a soft drink. It was only later when I went to watch “Saawariya”, that I realised it was Ranbir himself who had served me the other day. I would love to act with him someday.” TOI
