Shah Rukh, Salman’s title tussle

Whether they like it or not. Salman’s friend Sajid, signs SRK for his next, while Salman is roped in by what you might consider is Shah Rukh’s home banner. This time the bone of contention seems to be a film title.

The title Happy New Year belongs to Shah Rukh. It was a film supposed to be directed by then good-friend Farah Khan but they fell out and the film was shelved. Producer Bhushan Kumar, who has good relations with Shah Rukh Khan, started a venture with the same title starring Sunny Deol and Kangna Ranaut. Everyone assumed SRK would be okay with it. Says an insider, “SRK and his team got to know that the film was being directed by Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao, who are close to the Dabangg star, so they requested Bhushan to change the title. They explained that they wanted to make a film using Happy New Year. Stumped by the request, the producers have now decided to go for a title change.”

The informer continues, “The creative team locked themselves in for an urgent meeting. It emerged that New Year are two very important words to be retained in the new title as it was essential to the plot and were words that directly communicated to the audiences what to expect from the film. Thus, the team has gone a little cheeky with the new title. Sunny and Kangna’s film is now being renamed as I Love New Year. It suits everyone.”

Bhushan says, “Yes, it is true that Happy New Year was on our mind but it was a working title. The original was with SRK and we decided to change ours. I did not get calls from SRK or anyone on this.” TOI
