Sandra Bullock donates $1 million to the Japanese relief efforts

The American Red Cross relief efforts for the Japanese earthquake/tsunami victim received a major boost, with Sandra Bullock donating $1million to the Red Cross. The Red Cross has received many donations but this donation by Sandra Bullock is the largest celebrity donation to date.

The quake which registered a magnitude of nearly 9.0 on the Richter scale created a tsunami which leveled towns. The quake also led to fears of a nuclear power plant meltdown.

It is pertinent to note that Sandra Bullock has remained a prominent donor for relief efforts in the past as well. Sandra Bullock donated $1 million when a strong earthquake hit Haiti in 2009. Sandra Bullock also supported reconstruction work in the Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans.
The American Red Cross told the CNN that it has received $47 million in donations from the United States so far, out of which $10 million has already been distributed to Japanese victims.
