Hyderabad: The police on Friday arrested Telugu film producer Singanamala Ramesh in Chennai on charges of threatening a film financier Jayanth Reddy.
Ramesh, who was evading arrest since the past five months, was nabbed by a team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials at Chennai airport.
He is likely to be brought to Hyderabad later in the day.
Sources said the producer was based on the Reddy’s complaint that Ramesh, along with Bhanu Kiran, the prime suspect in the Maddelacheruvu Suri, threatened to kill him in 2008.
The threats against Reddy were made after he demanded Ramesh to pay back the Rs 7.2 crore he had taken as finance for a film.
The financier came forward to lodge a complaint after police started looking for Bhanu in connection with Suri’s killing.
Ramesh is also facing charges of cheating proprietor of Shalimar Videos over the video rights of a film Komaram Puli.
With Ramesh’s arrest today, the police hope to make progress in the investigations into Suri’s killing.
Suri, a politician-turned-gangster from Anantapur district, was gunned down by his close aide Bhanu in Hyderabad on January 3.
Bhanu however, has been absconding though four of his associates have been arrested.
Maddelacheruvu Suri himself was the prime accused in the murder of former Telugu Desam Party MLA Paritala Ravi.(INN)
