The 49-year-old was admitted there on Friday with severe brain injuries after a group of inmates hit him on the head with bricks and pieces of tin. Doctors had warned from the start that his recovery was unlikely; he was comatose and on ventilator support.

An autopsy will be conducted today at the Jinnah hospital where he died at 12.45 am.

Expressing grief over Sarabjit’s death, PM Manmohan Singh regretted that “Pakistan did not heed pleas of India and Sarabjit’s family for taking a humanitarian view in this case.”

Sarabjit family has requested that he be given “a martyr’s funeral”. His sister, Dalbir Kaur, his wife and two daughters, who were given emergency visas to visit him, returned to India on Wednesday afternoon after being told that his coma appeared irreversible. They said they had been let down by the Indian government.

Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde met Sarabjit’s family in New Delhi a little while ago and said the government was making all efforts to get his body back home for last rites.

The Indian High Commissioner is expected to meet the Chief Minister of the Punjab Province in Pakistan soon.

India had unsuccessfully petitioned Pakistan to let the 49-year-old be sent home for treatment.

Pakistan has over the years maintained that Mr Singh was a terrorist. He was given the death sentence in 1991 for bombings a year earlier in Lahore and Multan in which 14 people were killed.

His sister who had campaigned for years for his release has said he inadvertently crossed the border into Pakistan and his conviction was a case of mistaken identity. She has also said that the attack last week was pre-planned and that she had reported to the Indian authorities earlier that there was a threat to Sarabjit’s life.

Just as Yadav was speaking, an agitated Owaisi objected to some remarks. The JD(U) chief told Owaisi that he never intervenes when other members speak and he expected him (Owaisi) to sit and listen. But Owaisi did not relent, forcing Yadav to call the MIM chief `a useless man’.

Even as Owaisi raised his voice, Yadav told the House that he never believed in questioning the unity of India (in an obvious reference to Asaduddin’s brother Akbaruddin who is facing a series of cases over his inflammatory speech).

Yadav also asked the Speaker to remove Owaisi from the House for disrupting proceedings.

Subsequent exchange of words was expunged from the records of the Lok Sabha by Speaker Meira Kumar.

The explosions are said to have occurred at Dilsukh Nagar area of the city near a bus stop. The blasts happened near Konark and Venkatadri movie theater. The blasts happened simultaneously at around 7pm.

The first blast occurred at 7:01 pm.

As per reports more than 40 people have have been injured in the blasts and have been rushed to the nearby hospital. There are few private hospitals which are close by to the area.

The locality is said to be very crowded and hosts a fruit market.

The local ploice has reached the spot and prelimnary investigations are on.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Kiran Kumar has called for an emergency meeting after reports of the balsts. The state Home Minster is on his way to the spot.

Two days back an alert had been sounded by the intelligence agencies to various states of impending blasts at various places.

Akbar Owaisi wore a new look when he stepped out of jail. Contrary to his usual clean shave look, he donned a complete new look wearing long and thick moustache. After reaching his residence Akbar Owaisi met his family members and MIM leaders.

Hyderabad :

Mr Owaisi, a legislator of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen, was released from the Adilabad district jail, about 300 km from Hyderabad, after getting bail yesterday. Hundreds of party workers greeted him outside the prison.

Mr Owaisi was booked for allegedly using provocative language against a community at public meetings in Adilabad and Nizamabad districts in December last year. He was arrested on January 8 and faces charges of sedition and waging war against the nation.

Mr Owaisi won bail in both the cases yesterday. A sessions court in Adilabad granted him conditional bail that he will not enter Nirmal town, where he allegedly made a hate speech, and will surrender his passport.

In the other case, a magisterial court in Nizamabad town allowed Mr Owaisi bail on the condition that he should cooperate with the investigation. (NDTV)

The courts approved bail for Owaisi on health grounds on a bond of Rs 10,000 and two sureties, Owaisi’s lawyer said.

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) legislator is lodged in a jail in Adilabad.

Akbar Owaisi is in jail since his arrest Jan 8 for making a controversial speech at Nirmal on Dec 22. He was also booked for making a similar speech at Nizamabad on Dec 8.

Following rejection of bail petition twice by the Sangareddy, the MIM president moved a bail petition in the Session Court. After hearing the argument, the court granted bail.

It may be mentioned that Asaduddin Owaisi was sent to judicial remand for 14-days on Monday after he appeared before the Sangareddy Court in a case registered against him for allegedly abusing the then District Collector Anil Kumar Singhal and his deputy JC Bhima Naik on April 16, 2005 at Mathangi in Patancheru mandal. A non-bailable warrant was pending in the court as he did not appear in the court since 2009.

Following his appearance, the court remanded him to judicial remand till February 2.

Asaduddin Owaisi is likely to be released from Sangareddy Jail in the next few hours.

“Akbaruddin Owaisi is a political prisoner. Today he is in jail only because MIM has withdrawn its support to the Congress government. Till the time MIM was with the Congress government, it was secular and the moment it withdrew its support, it is labeled as communal party and hence arrested the leadership,” said Lateef Mohammad Khan, General Secretary of CLMC here on Wednesday.

Akbaruddin Owaisi, younger brother of Hyderabad MP and MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi was arrested Tuesday evening. Around the same time, Owaisi senior’s official residence in New Delhi was ransacked by members of saffron groups.

CLMC leader, however, termed Owaisi’s arrest as illegal.

“Akbar’s arrest is not only illegal but is also inhuman act. A person who was on medical treatment outside the country, left his treatment incomplete there to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies, came back and wanted time of four days due to his ill health, but the government on the pretext of medical check-up took him to the Gandhi Medical Hospital and arrested him by fabricating medical reports. This is an open dishonesty and a grave violation of Supreme Court guidelines laid down in connection of arrest, detention and interrogation,” said Mr. Khan in a media statement.

CLMC also condemned the attack at MP Owaisi’s house in Delhi.

“Civil Liberties also condemn the attack on the official residence of Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi, MP at the capital city Delhi which is located in the high security zone under the control of government of India. This attack is nothing but a terror attack by the RSS gang which clearly reflects the soft corner of the government towards the Hindutva terrorism,” Mr. Khan said.

He said that the alleged anti-Hinduism remark of Akbaruddin Owaisi was based on the statement of BJP leader and lawyer Ram Jethmalani.

“Civil Liberties wants to make clear that Akbar’s speech is based on the statement of Mr. Ram Jethmalani; he had also given his reference in his speech. The content of the speech is similar to Mr. Ram Punyani’s articles. Akbar repeated the wordings of Mr. Ram Jethmalani in his own style. Hindu media is misrepresenting his speech due to which misunderstanding has been created among the people.”

Mr. Khan also said that the action against Akbaruddin Owaisi once again exposes the double standard of the executive in implementation of a law. Several Hindutva leaders have time and again given hate speeches across the country but no action has been taken ever against them. Muslimmirror.com

In view of arrest MIM party members declared bandh in Adilabad,Nizamabad and other districts. More details awaited

After undergoing medical tests through the day at government-run Gandhi Hospital, the legislator was arrested by police.

A five-member medical team led by a cardiologist conducted the medical check-up of Owaisi at the hospital.

Additional security forces were also deployed in parts of the Old City as a precautionary measure following speculation that Owaisi would be arrested after his medical tests.

Gandhi Hospital superintendent Dr S Mahbub said medical examination of Akbaruddin was conducted by a team of five doctors.

According to medical report, MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi has adhesions and hernia in abdomen and he can’t walk long distances, TV channels reported.

“A bullet is there on the lower side of his back,” the medical superintendent said. A rival group “attacked” Akbaruddin in April 2011 over a land dispute issue in Barkas area here. He had sustained bullet injuries in the attack.
