Hyderabad: The ‘Bonalu’ festival organized as a part of the Ashada Jatara at the Sri Ujjaini Mahakali Temple, General Bazar, Secunderabad, concluded on Monday, with the `Rangam’ predictions by Ms Swaroopa Rani and the procession of the presiding deity atop a caparisoned elephant.

During the ‘Rangam’, Ms Rani forecast good rain. The forecast blamed the politicians for current political crisis. However, the forecast said the people in general would enjoy happy and prosperous time during the year.

The festival would enjoy larger patronage of the devotees in the years to come, she professed.

Executive Officer of the temple said although the two main events slated for the day were completed ahead of schedule (before noon), devotees continued to throng the temple later. More people are expected on Tuesday.

The police have deployed additional forces to mark the procession of the presiding deity atop a caparisoned elephant.

Non-governmental organizations and Voluntary bodies came forward to provide drinking water facility to thousands of devotees.

Potharajus are well built, colored and smeared, scantily dressed naked men selected from the villages, personifying as brothers of their Mother Goddess, flogging themselves, lead the procession of the dancing and balancing devoted and possessed women, and arrive at the Guddis to offer Bhojanum to the local Deities, Yellamma, Pochamma, Maisamma, and Gundamma.(INN)
