The sudden outburst of the senior Congress leader has significance as the Congress high command was seriously trying for an alliance with the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) founded by the former megastar, Mr K Chiranjeevi. Two factors — united Andhra stand of the PRP and the reported offer of deputy chief minister’s post to Mr Chiranjeevi by the Congress high command — caused consternation among senior Congress leaders as well as their Telangana counterparts. Besides, the SC ministers were dreaming for deputy CM’s post in the Kiran Kumar Reddy government for some time. Though the Higher Education Minister, Mr Damodar Rajanarsimha was tipped for the second ranking post in the present cabinet, the party high command kept the issue in cold storage for the reasons best known to it. The reported Dy CM post offer to Mr Chiranjeevi might cause anger to the SC ministers and MLAs.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Congress leaders were furious over the move for Congress alliance with the PRP. They are very much disappointed as the party high command was planning to embrace PRP, which took the stand of united Andhra Pradesh. They strongly believe that the Congress alliance with PRP would definitely send wrong signals to the people of Telangana region. The Telangana ministers and MLAs were in a fix over the decision of the party high command.
The caustic comments made by the senior Congress leader, Mr G Venkatswamy, questioning the origin of Ms Sonia Gandhi and the party position under her leadership have raked sensation not only in the State but also in the entire country.
According to grape wine, there were some SC and Telangana Congress leaders behind the hostile statement of the senior Congress leader. Giving strength to it, barring two or three leaders, all the party leaders from Telangana kept mum and some of them openly talked opposing the Congress alliance with the PRP.
Many an eye brow raised as Congress high command’s plan for alliance with PRP at a time when the Justice Srikrishna Committee submitted its report on Telangana Statehood. What sort of understanding and offers took place between the Congress and PRP might come clear by Sunday. (NSS)
