108, 104 services to be merged

Hyderabad: The state government has decided to merge the 108 and 104 services following complaints received from different sections.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has decided to integrate both the wings while closing down their Call Centres to concentrate on providing better services to the poor, revealed Health and Medical Education Minister D L Ravindra Reddy on Monday.

Besides this, steps would be taken to track down the vehicles plying under the 108 services through satellite systems as complaints were also received that the said vehicles’ network was out of the reach of the poor spread out in rural areas in spite of allotting Rs 10 crore to each of the services.

In view of the reports that the infant mortality rate going up, the cited services would be stepped up for better reach to the common man, Dr Ravindra Reddy told media persons at the Secretariat.

He also disclosed that he had appealed to the Chief Minister for grant of more funds.

“The merger of both the services is expected to go a long way in helping bring down the infant mortality rate as their streamlining would increase their reach,” the Minister said.(INN)
