Hyderabad: The officials of Drug Control Department conducted 22,172 inspections and seized 34 spurious drugs during 2010-11.
According to the demands of the Health and Family Welfare in the budget, the Drug Control Department regulates the manufacture, distribution and sale of drugs and cosmetics in the State and ensures the availability of standard quality drugs to the public at the price as fixed by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority. There are about 47,000 licensed sales concerns and 2,150 licensed manufacturing concerns existing in the State that are inspected by DCA wing to carry out its objectives. The Department conducted 22,172 raids in which 34 seizures were done. For violation of rules, 13,341 sales licences and manufacturing licences have been suspended. Similarly, 10,532 sales licences and manufacturing licences have also been cancelled during 2010-011.
In all, 81 persons were prosecuted and 21 among them persons were convicted. The department has analyzed 3,386 samples during this year. (NSS)
