Hyderabad: As many as 37 MLAs from the ruling Congress party, including four Ministers and 28 MLAs from the main opposition Telugu Desam Party submitted their resignations from the state Assembly to Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to intensify pressure on the Centre to create a separate Telangana state.
Notably, rebel Congress MLA and former minister Konda Surekha, a staunch supporter of Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy, too tendered her resignation along with the Congress MLAs.
Ministers K Jana Reddy, J Geetha Reddy, Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Komatireddy Venkata Reddy were among the 37 MLAs who resigned, The Congress has 51 MLAs representing it in the Assembly from the Telangana region.
The resignations were handed over to the Deputy Speaker as Speaker Nadendla Manohar is on a foreign trip.
Meanwhile, the Congress MPs who had sought an appointment with Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar failed to meet her at her Chamber.(INN)
