Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at the Secretariat when the ABVP members made a vain attempt to lay a siege to the Secretariat demanding deletion of Clause 14(f) from the Presidential Order. The eagle-eyed police resorted to a mild lathi-charge on the students and brought the situation under control.
The ABVP activists, split into ten groups and tried to storm the Secretariat from different directions at 11 am on Saturday. The police arrested an ABVP group at the BRK Bhavan near Lakdikapool when they tried to rush towards the Secretariat. But, another group from Tank Bund managed to reach Lumbini Park, opposite the main gate of the Secretariat. However, the alert police personnel stopped them resulting in a scuffle between the police and ABVP members. The police swung lathis and dispersed the students and arrested some of them. However, the police succeeded in preventing the ABVP members from storming the Secretariat. The arrested ABVP members were shifted to Saifabad police station.
The Special Protection Force (SPF) personnel, who were guarding the Secretariat, closed the entrance and exit gates to leave no scope to the protestors to enter into the Secretariat. After reopening of the gates also, the SPF men allowed the duty pass holders into the Secretariat.
The vehicular traffic came to standstill on the roads around the Secretariat for half-an-hour. In addition to the deployment of Central forces, a large number of civil police were also kept on the roads leading to the Secretariat to avert any untoward incident.
