Hyderabad: All India Students’ Federation state Council has decided to organise relay hunger strikes at all the District Collector offices in the State on April 21, protesting against the State Government’s conspiracy to do away with fee reimbursement scheme to Post-Graduate students, on the pretext that some ineligible students were misusing it.
This was announced by Mr N Lenin Babu, State General Secretary, at a media meet here today. He said this decision was taken at a meeting of AISF office-bearers and executive members here yesterday and today. He said that the then Chief Minister Dr Y s Rajasekhara Reddy had sanctioned the fee reimbursement and scholarship schemes, on the eve of last general elections and implemented it for the benefit of students; but now many restrictions were being placed on it, and a conspiracy was going on to dispense with the schemes.
Lamenting that the salaries of MLAs were hiked to Rs.95, 000 per month, but the mess charges and scholarship amounts were not being increased to the poor students, he questioned whether the MLAs were poorer than the students. He warned that they would not keep quiet if injustice was done to 40 lakhs students in the State.
State President Mr B Anjaneyulu warned that they would organise raids on the colleges which conducts classes during the summer in violation of the rules. They would also fight against collection of high fees by the corporate colleges, he added. (NSS)
