Akbaruddin Owaisi Case: Chandrayangutta Circle Inspector shifted

Hyderabad: The Chandrayangutta Police Circle Inspector, Mr Venkatagiri, has been transferred in the wake of criticism that the local police had failed to ensure security to the MIM legislator, Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi, who was knifed and shot at by his rivals in the Old City recently.

The Hyderabad City Police Commissioner, Mr A K Khan, issued orders to this effect on Thursday. In his place, Mr Venkat Reddy has been posted as new circle inspector.

The City Police chief was constrained to transfer Mr Venkatagiri following reports of police negligence when the MIM leader went on Padayatra in the Old City. The police sub-inspector, who accompanied the MIM MLA on padayatra possessing no service revolver at that time and the police constables on bandobust duty remaining silent spectators at the scene of offence gave rise to suspicions.
