Akbaruddin Owaisi case Detective Department takes over

Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner A K Khan on Tuesday stated that seven persons have been arrested in connection with attack on MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi.

Producing the accused before media persons at the Police Commissioner’s Office in Basheer Bagh on Tuesday, the City Police chief said that seven of the nine identified persons involved in the attack have been arrested.

The two remaining attackers are undergoing treatment at the Yashoda Hospital and will be arrested as soon as they are discharged, Mr Khan said.

He identified the arrested accused as Abdullah Bin Yafai, Awad Bin Yafai, Md Wahlan, Yahiya Yafai and Isa Yafai. Ibrahim Bin Yafai died due to the defensive firing, Mr Khan revealed.

He said that the attack took place when Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi ended his Padayatra in Barkas division of Chandrayangutta constituency last Saturday from 9 AM to 10:30 AM.

He, along with his followers, then went to Kothapet village area in Cyberabad limits. While returning, he halted briefly at MIM Office of Barkas Division situated at Balapur Road near Keshavarigiri post office.

The MLA got into his Gypsy and was leaving the place with Malakpet MLA Ahmed Balala, local Corporator Mansoor Awalqi and other party workers in another vehicle behind him.

At that time, the accused Hassan Bin Omer came on a Honda Activa scooter, and obstructed Mr Owaisi’s vehicle.

Hassan bin Omar then attacked him with a butcher’s knife. Along with him, the other accused Ibrahim Bin Yafai, Abdullah Bin Yafai, Awad Bin Yafai, Md Wahlan, Yahiya Yafai, Isa Yafai and others also attacked the MLA with the revolver and daggers.

They brutally attacked and fired at the MLA leaving him seriously injured. His driver also received a bullet injury.

Meanwhile, MLA Ahmed Balala rushed to the rescue of Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi and the accused attacked him too, the police chief said.

Mr Balala’s PSO Md Jani Mia opened fire at the assailants to rescue the seriously injured Akbaruddin Owaisi and the others who were under attack by the assailants.

In the firing, accused Ibrahim Bin Younus Yafai, Awad Bin Younus and Abdullah Bin Younus Yafai received fire arm injuries.

They were shifted to Yashoda Hospital, Malakpet, where Ibrahim Bin Younus Yafai was declared dead.

The police registered a case based on the complaint of Corporator Mansoor Awalqi.

Stating the prime accused has been identified as Mohd Pahelwan, Mr Khan said another two accused Awad Bin Younus and Abdullah Bin Younus Yafai who also sustained fire arm injuries are under treatment at Yashoda Hospital, will be arrested soon.

He said that .32 mm bullets fired by the revolver used by Abdullah Bin Yafai were recovered.

Mr Khan added that the case was transferred to City Crime Station to Detective Department for further investigation.

He also revealed that Additional Commissioner of Police AR Anuradha was investigating the case.
When the government ready to provide gunman security to MLA, Khan said that the MLA has refused to take them.

According to Mr Khan, Akbaruddin Owaisi was actively assisting the Government officials in the recovery of government lands under illegal occupation at Bandlaguda and other places, including those under the illegal occupation of the accused persons.

The recent survey of the lands of the accused resulted in increasing the long pending differences and has become a triggering factor.

Besides, there are differences between the victim and accused in the past. As a result, they developed grudge and hatched a plan to eliminate the MLA Owaisi.

Investigation is in progress and there is likelihood of more accused being arrested shortly.
