Hyderabad: In a statement recorded by police, the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA, Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi, named Mohammed Pahelwan for the murderous attack on him at Barkas on April 30. The MLA also said that he had taken out his own pistol to defend himself, but was unable to do so as one of the assailants had attacked his hand with a butcher knife.
The Central Crime Station sleuths recorded Mr Owaisi’s statement on Friday. Mr Owaisi said, “It is my duty to protect government lands. Mohammed Pahelwan had warned me several times. The attack on me was planned.” “I had a .22 licensed pistol. I tried to open fire in self defence. However, one of them, named Hasan, attacked my hand with a butcher knife. I couldn’t use the pistol then,” he added. The MLA said two bullets hit him in the body.
The CCS cops have seized Mr Owaisi’s .22 pistol and have send it for ballistic examination. “We will find out whether the weapon was used,” said an official. The MLA was discharged from the Care Hospital at Banjara Hills on Friday. However, he will need to return to the hospital after four weeks to undergo surgery for an intestine injury. It is learnt that Mr Owaisi will also need to get a plastic surgery done on his hand. Deccan Chronicle
