Hyderabad: The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLA, Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi, underwent a major intestinal surgery (laparotomy) on Wednesday morning at a private hospital in the city. Post surgery, he has been shifted to the surgical intensive care unit and his condition is stated to be stable.
Mr Owaisi was admitted to Global Hospital after he had complained of severe stomach pain on Monday. Hospital authorities said that after various examinations and ultra-sonography, the doctors felt the need of a laparotomy to rectify the problems in the intestines, stemming from injuries suffered previously.
The MIM leader, who had survived an assault on his life on April 29, had suffered multiple bullet and knife wounds. He had undergone a couple of major abdominal surgeries in early May. Mr Vedagiri Rambabu, the hospital spokesperson, said Dr K. Ravindranath, the senior surgical gastroenterologist and CMD of the hospital, Dr Varghese Mathai, the senior colorectal surgeon, and their team operated on Mr Owaisi.
“The surgery has been successful, but Mr Owaisi would have to stay for a few days before he can be discharged,” he said. Deccan Chronicle
