For the first time since a murderous attack nearly three months ago, MIM floor leader in the legislative assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi moved out of his home in the police-provided bulletproof vehicle on Wednesday.
According to sources, the city police had placed the bulletproof Scorpio and four personal security guards at Owaisi’s disposal a few weeks ago. Though the PSGs followed him as he visited hospitals for treatment, he had not used the bullet-proof Scorpio. “Today when he decided to visit his party headquarters Darussalam he preferred to sit in the BP car and also take the gunmen with him,” they said.
The decision for providing the BP car to Owaisi was taken last month by the state security review committee that agreed that the threat perception to the legislator was serious. The two-plus-two security guards would cover him round the clock.
Owaisi was attacked by a group carrying revolvers and daggers in Chandrayangutta on April 30. The police arrested 15 persons that included actual assailants and people who allegedly supported them. He returned home in Banjara Hills on Monday last from a private hospital where he had undergone a abdomen surgery. Owaisi spoke with the students and parents who had come to the Deccan Medical College in Darussalam for admission counseling. “Though he appeared weak, he spoke in his trademark strong voice,” one of the parents present at the counseling session said.
