Hyderabad: The JNTUH Telangana Employees’ Association has demanded that the State government select an internal Telangana Professor for the post of Vice-Chancellor at the meeting of Search Committee on August 12.
Speaking to mediapersons here today, the association president, Dr K. Eshwara Prasad, said Prof. G. Lakshminarayana of Vysya community from the Telangana region was alone appointed Vice- Chancellor in 1982. Barring Dr Lakshminarayana, the remaining 10 Vice-Chancellors of the University since 1972 belonged to the Seemandhra region, he said, adding that Telangana professors who have rich administrative experience were rendered gross injustice in the appointment of VCs since last 30 years.
The association general secretary, Mr K. Yadagiri Goud, alleged that the State government was ignoring the professors of the Telangana region for appointment of Vice-Chancellors in spite of having rich experience in teaching and administration. He warned that they would not tolerate the discrimination against the Telangana professors if the government has chosen to appoint Seemandhra Professors as Vice-Chancellor. He said that they would submit a memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr C. Damodar Raja Narasimha, on Friday urging him to select only a Telangana professor for the post of Vice-Chancellor.
The Association organizing secretary, Dr G.V. Narasimha Reddy, the Joint Secretary, Dr B. Balu Naik, were also present.
