Hyderabad, Feb.18 (NSS): The Deputy Speaker, Mr Nadendla Manohar, who was in the chair, on Friday assured the House that action would be taken against the members who had attacked the Lok Satta Party member, Dr Jayaprakash Narayan, on the premises of the Assembly, after receipt of the report of the inquiry into the incident.
Informing the House about the action to be taken in the matter, the Deputy Speaker said that after knowing about the attack on JP, he asked the Chief Marshal and Legislature Secretary to submit a report on the incident. Attack on a member by an outsider would come under breach of privileges and contempt of the House.
“I have directed the Police Commissioner of Hyderabad to immediately arrest the outsider Mr Mallaiah, son of Somaiah, for attacking Dr JP on the premises of the Assembly. The police have arrested the man”, he added.
Stating that an inquiry was going on into the incident, Mr Manohar assured the members that the inquiry report would be placed in the House after completion. Steps would be taken to protect and ensure freedom of speech of the members on the premises of the Assembly, he added.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the announcement of the Deputy Speaker, the MIM floor leader, Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi, felt that the yesterday’s incident would bring a bad name to the Telangana region. He lamented that action was taken on poor man Mallaiah only. He directly asked the Deputy Speaker, “Are you giving a clean chit to the MLAs who also attacked Dr Jayaprakash Narayan?”
Reacting to Mr Owaisi’s remarks, the TRS MLA, Mr K Taraka Rama Rao, who was continuing protest at Podium of the Speaker along with TRS members, demanded that action should also be taken against the MLAs who had directed an attack on the controversial writer Ms Taslima in the City. (NSS)
