Hyderabad: The Auto Parirakshana Porata Committee leaders, Mr Mohd Amanullah Khan, Mr B Venkatesham and others have strongly condemned the brutal lathi-charge on auto drivers at the VST crossroads on Wednesday.
In a pressnote here on Thursday, the Committee leaders stated that some 200 auto drivers took out a “Chalo Assembly” rally from Bagh Lingampally demanding that the government introduce Telangana Bill in Parliament. However, when the rally reached the VST crossroads, the police resorted to lathi-charge on peaceful processionists injuring many auto drivers, they said, adding that some 50 auto drivers were taken into custody and whisked away to the Gandhi Nagar Police Station.
The committee convenor, Mr Mohd Amanullah Khan, has declared that the Telangana auto drivers were ready to make any sacrifices for the sake of separate Telangana State. He also alleged that the Seemandhra leaders, who were ruling the State since the last 54 years, have failed to solve the long-pending demands of auto drivers like allotment of house-sites, grant of Rs 2 lakh ex gratia to auto drivers and setting up of Welfare Board for auto drivers.
Mr Khan also announced that the auto drivers’ “Horn Bajao” programme at the Assembly, which was scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed to February 25 at 11.30 am. (NSS)
