Hyderabad: The Telangana Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee convener, Mr Mohammad Amanullah Khan, has announced that he would undertake fast-unto-death from July 21 in protest against the government’s inordinate delay in increasing auto fares and demanding suspension of Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Mr C. V. Anand, for encouraging the overloaded sharing autos in the twin cities.
In a press release here on Saturday, Mr Amanullah Khan stated that the committee has decided to launch “save meter auto’ movement and his hunger strike was part of it. He alleged that though the State government allowed hike in bus fares due to hike in diesel price, it did not bother to increase auto fares despite a three-time steep hike in petrol price within eight months. “This is nothing but step-motherly treatment being meted out to the poor auto drivers,” he added.
Mr Khan also alleged that the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Mr C. V. Anand, was encouraging overloaded sharing autos plying illegally on the city roads.
