Hyderabad, Feb.6 (NSS): The A P State B C Welfare Association President, Mr R Krishnaiah strongly criticized the State Government for its inaction in the light of threats of the managements of private college either to close the colleges or collect fee from the students from February 15, if the amount of tuition fee reimbursements was not released immediately.
Mr R Krishnaiah in a press release here, said that the managements of private colleges were harassing the students for fees due to non-release of tuition fee reimbursement in time. He reminded that students were committing suicide due to the harassment. The Government has even failed to implement the direction of the Supreme Court to release the budget of tuition fee reimbursement by January 29, he charged.
“Though 24.56 lakh of renewals and fresh applications for this academic year were there, none was sanctioned yet.”, he said and dared the Government to show even a single scholarship that was sanctioned in this academic year.
Stating that the Government should own responsibility for Terming the for the death of B Tech student Varalaxmi, he strongly criticized the minister for making effort to project that she died due to gas leak. The college hostels were facing closure as funds were not released for them for the last two years, he deplored.
Stating that the financial position of the government was good this year compared to last year, he said that there was 30 percent improvement in revenue of excise, sales tax and VAT in this year compared to last year. The dues of Rs 2,500 crores of tuition fee reimbursement and scholarships was very minute amount in 1.25 lakh crore budget of the state. He urged the government to immediately release tuition fee reimbursement to the management of the colleges and scholarships to the students. (NSS)
