Hyderabad: The B C Associations on Monday urged the State Government to install statute of Mahatma Jhotirao Phule in the state capital at the earliest.

The demand has taken a momentum at official celebration of birth anniversary of Jhotiro Phule at Ravindra Bharathi here in the presence of the Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Speaking at Phule birth anniversary celebration, the A P B C Welfare Association President, Mr R Krishnaiah reminded that Phule laid foundation to social reforms in the country. He called up on the people particularly Dalits to get inspiration from Phule ideology and strive for uplift of their castes. Though then Chief Minister Mr K Rosaiah assured in 2010 to setup statute of Phule in the city by the day of his birth anniversary (today), it was not materialized yet. The Government should take steps to setup Phule statute at a main junction in the city, he urged. He wanted the Government to hike ‘diet charge’ of hostel students to Rs 1,200 from present Rs 520.

The BC leader requested the Chief minister to appoint directors and allocate required funds to 14 federations of BC castes.

The Jhotirao Phule birth anniversary celebrations committee Chairman, Mr mallesh Yadav urged the Government to setup Phule statute beside statute of Ambedkar at Tank Bund. A lesson on life of Phule should be introduced in curricula of primary schools or upper primary schools that would facilitate us to make the coming generations aware of the great leader and his ideology, he added.
