Hyderabad: Alleging that the farmers in the State have announced ‘Crop Holiday’ because of the erratic policies of the Centre and the State government, the State BJP has demanded that the government formulate a beneficial agriculture policy. The appointment of Mohan Kanda Committee was too late, it added.
Addressing the Kisan Morcha State executive meeting at the State BJP office here on Friday, the State BJP president, Mr G. Kishan Reddy, said the farmers were vexed with not having remunerative prices for their produce and announced crop holiday in the Godavari districts. He said that it seemed that the State government was not interested in the implementation of Prof. Swaminathan Committee recommendations. Mr Reddy asked the Congress government whether it implemented even a single program that helped the farmers during its seven-year rule. He said that the credit of encroachment of the lands of farmers goes to the Congress government only.
Seeking crop insurance policy that should be prepared on the basis of weather conditions, he said the nation would be happy if the farmer was happy. Exuding confidence that the BJP would come to power at the Centre in 2014 elections, he said it would introduce a pro-farmer agriculture policy. He called upon the Kisan Morcha activists to work towards in this direction.
