Hyderabad: The BJP has strongly criticized the State Government for it’s failure to get gas from the Central Government for setting up of gas-based power plants in the State.

Addressing the media here today, BJP senior leader and former Union Minister Mr Bandaru Dattatreya said that the Government lacking foresight has become a curse to the State, and its interests are suffering badly. He condemned the Government’s indifferent attitude towards the agitations of the farmers and fishermen of Nellore and Srikakulam districts against the proposal to set up a number of thermal power projects, which would post a danger to the environment and livelihood of thousands of the people. He regretted that the Government has stooped to the level of using police force to suppress the peoples’ movements against the thermal power projects.

He demanded the Government to hold all-party meeting to discuss on the power projects issue and achieve a consensus on it instead of using police force. He said the Government has failed to fulfill its repeated promise of adding 1000 MW power every year to meet the increasing demand. He alleged that the Government was ignoring the Government-owned Electricity bodies and favouring private party to get commissions. (NSS)
