Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on Thursday demanded uniformity in laws pertaining to acquiring agricultural lands for the Special Economic Zones across the country.
Speaking to media persons after his party submitted a memorandum to Governor ESL Narasimhan at the Raj Bhavan, BJP state unit president G Kishen Reddy appealed to the government to streamline the acquiring of lands for industrialization.
Mr Kishen Reddy said that the government should bring uniformity in the laws for acquiring lands for Special Economic Zones and for industrialization purpose.
The BJP leader disclosed that he had explained to the Governor how the farmers were suffering injustice due to the forceful acquisition of their lands for industrialization.
He demanded that the government should make Amendment to existing laws so that lands taken from farmers should be utilized for providing basic infrastructure and for defence purposes.
“Before acquisition of lands from the farmers, the government should pay compensation as per the existing market rate and rehabilitate the victims by giving suitable employment,” the BJP leader demanded.
The government should also elicit the opinion of farmers before acquiring their lands for private or public projects, Mr Kishen Reddy stated.
