Hyderabad: The State Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday charged the State government with remaining a silent spectator when the farmers and people in the State were groaning under a whirlpool of problems.
Speaking to mediapersons at the State BJP office here, the BJP national secretary, Dr K Laxman, said that the administration in the State remained paralysed since a month as all the ministers and legislators were camping in Kadapa and concentrating on the by-elections.
Stating that the Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy, was totally immersed in thoughts as how to protect his government from fluid political situation, Dr Laxman said there will be uncertainty in the State after the results of Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly byelections were announced. He said that the farming community was in a piquant situation as the government failed to concentrate on their problems.
The BJP leader lamented that the farmers were in a quandary as their paddy was not procured properly and their crop was lying on the roads for want of space in State godowns. He claimed that the farmers were suffering huge losses at the hands of the greedy middlemen. Dr Laxman demanded that the government wake up from deep slumber and help the farmers by ensuring procurement of food grains by the FCI at remunerative prices and grant permission for rice export.
Dr Laxman also pointed out that some 600 farmers had resorted to suicides since December last as the State and Central governments remained indifferent to their problems. He said that his party was organising a dharna on May 18 at Indira Park on farmers’ problems. The national party leader, Mr M Venkaiah Naidu, would attend the proposed agitation, he added. (NSS)
