BJP Leader Jhansi Rani Killed In Road Mishap

Hyderabad, Feb.19 (NSS): State Bharatiya Janata Party senior leader and former Mahila Morcha president Vanam Jhansi Rani was killed in a road accident in Mahbubnagar district on Saturday morning. Police said that the ghastly accident occurred at Kadthal village under Amangal mandal. While she was returning to the city from her native Achampet, another car coming from opposite direction collided head-on with her car causing grievous head injuries to her. She was immediately rushed to the DRDL Apollo Hospital at Malakpet where she succumbed to severe head injuries, the police added.

Police said that there were four occupants in the ill-fated car, but Jhansi and another person were grievously injured in the mishap while others escaped with simple injuries. Jhansi played an active role in the party and worked as secretary. She also served as BJP Mahila Morcha president. She took active part in the ongoing Telangana movement as a member of the Political JAC Steering Committee.

Jhansi Rani was 42 and left behind two sons.

After post mortem in the Osmania General Hospital, the body was shifted to the State party headquarters for the people to pay their last respects. The party leaders said that last rites would be performed in her native Achampet this evening.

On hearing the tragic news, the BJP leaders, including Mr M Venkaiah Naidu expressed their shock and grief at the sudden demise of Jhansi. The State BJP president, Mr G Kishen Reddy, wiping his tears, described her death as irreparable loss to the party and the State. He also rushed to the hospital at Malakpet and visited the body. The national party leader, Mr Ch Vidyasagar Rao expressed his shock over her death. The party senior leader, Mr Nallu Indrasena Reddy, described her death as irreparable loss to the party. He said that he could not digest the fact that Jhansi Rani was no more. (NSS)
