Hyderabad: Protesting against the state government hiking the power tariff, BJP workers led by the President of the Greater Hyderabad unit Mr. B. Venkat Reddy, today held demonstration at RTC X-Roads and burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Bandaru Dattatraya, BJP National Executive Member said that the hike in the power tariff from today onwards has dealt a big blow to the consumers, particularly the farmers, common man and middle class sections and deplored the move as anti-people.
Pointing out that the Congress party in its election manifesto had clearly promised the people that they will not be burdened by power tariff hike for ten years, he expressed surprise that within one year the charges were hiked twice. While the government’s version is that the increase would only affect only for the consumers above 300 Units for 0.50 Paise per Unit. But the real fact is that the hike would affect all the consumers comprising of 1.82 crore families in the State. The government has not even spared the Rural Electrical Co-op Societies like Sircilla, Cheepurupally and Kuppam.In the State Capital alone, 32 Lakh consumers which includes 12 Lakh consumers coming under above 300 Units and remaining consumers of above 500 Units would be put to untold misery. The total revenue collected is Rs 32 Crores in Hyderabad alone, he observed.
Mr. Dattatraya said that the government should roll back the hike in Electricity Tariff and supply uninterrupted power to the farmers and Students.
The BJP has given a call to all the Assembly Segments to demonstrate at all Electricity Sub Stations and Gherao concerned officials from 6th April onwards.
