Hyderabad: The historic Akkanna Madanna Mahankali Temple in the old city will be celebrating its annual ‘Bonalu Festival’ and ‘Mahankali Jathara’ from July 15 to 25.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Mr G. Niranjan, Temple committee president, said that the celebrations will begin at 6 am on July 15 with “Kalasha Sthapana’, and ends on July 25 with a procession of the deity on elephant from the temple to Nayapul. The procession will start at 3 pm. He said that the main Bonalu festival will be celebrated from 7 am on July 24, and mass ‘Kumkumarchana’ will be performed on all Fridays from July 8 to August 5 at Akkana Madannna Prayer Hall opposite the temple.
Mr Niranjan said that the annual ‘bonalu’ celebrations help create communal harmony as even Muslim organizations contribute towards enhancing the festivities. He said that Nizam Trust spared an elephant last year for final day procession. He said that in spite of the traffic problem, the procession will follow the traditional route.
