Hyderabad: Botsa Satyanarayana faces another major challenge in the form of Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who threatens the stability of the Congress government, led by N Kiran Kumar Reddy. Though about 20 Congress MLAs openly support Jagan presently, Congress leadership has not been able to take action against them.
With Jagan frequently launching an offensive against the ruling Congress, Satyanarayana faces a litmus test in facing the challenge from the Kadapa MP. Satyanarayana, who belongs to the backward Toorpu Kapu community from Vizianagaram district in north coastal Andhra Pradesh, has been a member of Lok Sabha and a minister in his long political career. Born in 1958 at Vizianagaram, he studied BA at M R College in the town.
An agriculturist and businessman by profession, Satyanarayana served as president of District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB) of Vizianagaram twice. He was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha in 1999 and has been representing Cheepurupalli assembly constituency in Vizianagaram district. Satyanarayana has been a minister since 2004 and various portfolios like major industries and panchayat raj.
He is presently minister for transport. His wife Jhansi Lakshmi is presently Lok Sabha member from Vizianagaram and his brother is also an MLA. Meanwhile, outgoing PCC president D Srinivas thanked the party workers and leaders for their cooperation.
