Hyderabad: The Jubilee Hills police on Thursday registered a case against the close relatives of Chaitanya Reddy, husband and principal accused in the murder of Kiran Reddy, niece of the Union Minister for Petroleum, Mr S Jaipal Reddy, for resisting the police while taking him to the Nampally criminal court on Wednesday.
The police said that they arrested Chaitanya Reddy on the basis of post mortem report and confession made by the accused on Wednesday. While the police were taking the accused to the Nampally criminal court for production, the relatives of the accused mobbed the police in front of the police station and demanded that Chaitanya Reddy be released unconditionally. However, the police dispersed them and produced the accused before the court which remanded him to 14-day judicial custody.
On Thursday, the police registered a case against the relatives of the accused on the charge of preventing public servants from performing their duties.
It may be mentioned here that Kiran Reddy, a dermatologist, was found dead in her flat six days ago. Initially the police had registered a case of suspicious death, but altered it later as murder case following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father.
The police said that a team of forensic experts who performed post mortem concluded that Kiran Reddy died of suffocation due to smothering. Besides, Chaitanya Reddy, during interrogation confessed to have murdered her in a fit of rage.
Meanwhile, Mr Devender Reddy, father of the accused, has alleged that the police had tortured his son with third degree methods and extracted his confession by force.
